Manchester United and Manchester City were the bookies favourites to win the Premier League this season but it hasn’t gone according to plan for the two Manchester clubs despite the arrivals of Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho. Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has outshone both managers and Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta believes both teams have struggled in the league due to the difficulty of winning the Premier League.

“It’s not so easy,” Azpilicueta told Daily Mail when asked why Manchester City and Manchester United have struggled in the league this season.

“People think you can win the league before it’s even begun. They are two great clubs with two great coaches and with big money invested on great squads. They are great rivals and I’m sure they will fight to the end but it’s hard to win this league.

“Every season I’ve been here teams have got better, the type of players that have come in from abroad has taken the level up, and the English have improved hugely. You have to fight hard in every single game. Every point is hard to win.”
