When Didier Drogba says a thing about spirit and winning titles, you just have to listen. The Ivorian attained legendary status during his time at the club, and it wasn’t a fluke. He won four Premier League titles with the Blues and was at Chelsea at a time when the club had such amazing spirit and character.
Drogba now believes that the spirit of old is back in this Antonio Conte led Chelsea, and I can’t agree less.
He said: “They’ve got the spirit back.
“To have players like David Luiz back, bringing his experience, he knows the club already. Gary Cahill, Eden, Diego, Matic, Azpilicueta — all these guys have already won titles. There’s a kind of continuity.
“It was a smart move to bring David Luiz back to the Bridge when at first people were saying they shouldn’t. I knew what he could bring to the club.
“On the other side, there’s some maturity of young players like Kante.
“It’s amazing to see him play. He reminds me of [former Chelsea midfielder anchorman Claude] Makelele. You look at him and it’s like he hasn’t run at all during the game because he’s never tired.”
Chelsea are seven points clear at the top of the table and the Blues have shown great character to rise from seventh some months ago to the top of the table.
