Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is reportedly ready to battle Manchester United’s Jose Mourinho and Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola for AS Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy in the summer according to Sky Sports.
Conte wants to strengthen the squad ahead of Chelsea’s return to the Champions League next season and with Marcos Alonso as Chelsea’s only recognised left wing-back at the moment, Conte is keen on bringing 22-year-old Mendy to Stamford Bridge.
Mendy has been in good form for Monaco this season. He has provided 10 assists in 33 games from his defensive position – the highest for a defender in all five top European leagues.
The France international left-back who joined Monaco in the summer of 2016 from Marseille for a fee of around £13m ($16.2m) is now believed to be worth double that amount closer to the £30m mark.
Mendy is adept in attack as well as defence and he will be a quality addition to the Chelsea squad in the summer.
Mendy is contracted to Monaco until the summer of 2021 and the Principality club are reportedly reluctant to sell the 22-year-old after just one season.
Will Chelsea be able to tempt Monaco into selling the impressive Mendy?
