Ahead of Chelsea’s game against Everton at Goodison Park later today, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has revealed it was crucial for Chelsea to reach the FA Cup final and also maintain our four-point advantage over Tottenham by defeating Southampton on Tuesday.
Conte is expecting a show of character from his players at the end of what he thinks is the most important week of our season so far.
“I always thought that this week is very important for us,” Conte said.
“I consider it crucial, for reaching the FA Cup final and also for the league, because I thought we must be good to keep our four-point lead over Tottenham and at the same time we had to face them to reach the final.
“For sure after the United defeat I think that it wasn’t easy to play this type of moment, because we saw that we had only a four-point lead and had to play the semi-final against Tottenham, our opponent in the league, and after that we had to play again after two-and-a-half days, against Southampton, a team who had rested for a lot of days.
“It was a good test for us, for our mental condition.
“I think it was a good answer from my players, but it’s important now to prepare in the right way the game against Everton, because we finish this crucial week with this game.”
