Antonio Conte surprised everyone as he handed starts to Michy Batshuayi and Nathan Ake. They didn’t look out of sorts but were instead motivated to give their best in a packed Wembley Stadium.

Speaking after the game, Antonio Conte revealed he was proud of their performance.

Conte said: “I’m pleased today because Michy started the game, an important game. Very important for him and his confidence and Ake, who is a young player from our academy.

“It is important to see his level and commitment in this type of game. It’s not easy. I trust them and every single player and today I think I showed this.”

He also revealed that it wasn’t difficult for him to start them, as they have already shown him their quality.

Conte said: “When you work with them every day. I don’t forget that every single player I work with them in the same way. If you stay in the XI or the bench or the stand.

“It’s very important because when you play in this way and you try always to involve every single player in your idea, you need all the players to be ready to fight and play in this sort of game.

“You did not play a simple game, you played a semi-final against a strong team like Tottenham at Wembley, with 80,000 people here. I think I must be proud for this.”
