Chelsea boss Antonio Conte wants 37-year-old Italy legend and New York City midfielder Andrea Pirlo to replace Steve Holland on his coaching staff this summer, according to former Chelsea midfielder and coach Ray Wilkins.
Holland will leave Chelsea at the end of the season after agreeing a deal to join Gareth Southgate’s England setup.
Pirlo visited Chelsea in December and watched a session at Chelsea’s Cobham training base in December.
Conte and Pirlo know each other well from their time together with Italy and Juventus, where they won three Serie A titles between 2011 and 2014.
“I know for a fact he has been around Stamford Bridge on a number of occasions this year,” Wilkins told talkSPORT.
“He’s the one that Antonio Conte would like. He managed him at Juventus until he was 34.
“He is the one he will want to come in [to replace Holland].”
