During last year winter, reports emerged that Chelsea current assistant manager, Steve Holland would be leaving the club permanently to join the England setup alongside Gareth Southgate. Certainly for Blue fans, he would be sorely missed at the club as his experience and strong-work ethics are impeccable traits that make him influential. Obviously the search for a new assistant to Antonio Conte should be an agenda that should have popped up in several discussions in the Chelsea boardroom. Even Conte, himself is finding the Englishman hard to replace. This is what he had to say concerning the issue:

“It’s a pity to lose him, I must be honest,” Conte said. “But, also, I can understand his choice. Steve is a very good professional and is helping me a lot with my time so far at Chelsea. He has great experience with this club.

“But this type of situation can arrive only once in your life, to be a coach or assistant coach of your national team and your country. For this reason, I understand his decision. It’s a pity because I’ve worked very well with him. But, for now, it’s important to be focused on the present and work with this staff.

“I have a great staff, a fantastic staff. There is a great spirit, a family spirit, with them. In the future, we’ll see [if a replacement is appointed].”

With that in mind, Conte and Chelsea need to start preparing for life after Steve Holland. The ideal candidate for the job would have to embrace the ethos of Chelsea and the Conte code. Though reports of a disparity between Conte and the Chelsea board could be made a lot easier with both parties looking within the club for our next assistant manager. He is Chelsea’s Captain, Leader and Legend – step forward – John Terry.

Here are 2 reasons he is a fit for the role:

We could make an argument that there’s no one who loves Chelsea more than John Terry and that’s why he is referred to as ‘Mr Chelsea’. The Chelsea influential skipper has never hidden his desire to coach at the club. Here’s Conte’s assertion:

“When he decides to finish his career, he could have a good prospect to start a new career as a manager,” Conte said. “He is clever and really good at understanding situation…”

More so, JT’s passion for the game and the club is similar to Conte’s, therefore, making them an ideal match for Chelsea coaching unit.

When chants of ‘Captain, Legend and Leader’ are heard around Stamford Bridge, then it’s just one man who deserves such from the fans. His public relation stunt with the Chelsea fans was the strategy he adopted to get a new deal. The fans sang the name of their hero during the final game of last season in a bid to get the club hierarchy to keep him. His loyalty is adored by the Chelsea fans and making him Chelsea’s next assistant manager will certainly please the fans. His influence in the club and on the team will prove handy to Conte in the long run. With him in Chelsea, there will be no end of his love affair with the club.

Let’s share on thoughts on this. Cheers!
