Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has revealed his thoughts concerning the Diego Costa issue, as regarding his dip in form.
Costa has struggled for goals this year, and Cascarino believes Conte has a major decision to make with the Spain international and has urged him to make a statement.
“Costa has had a very good season – his form has been exceptional at times – but, in the last six games I felt he was nowhere near the Diego of the early part of the season,” said the Weekend Sports Breakfast co-host.
“Of course [picking him for the team] is a no brainer. When he’s on song, when he’s at his very best, he’s one of your first players on the team sheet.
“But, in the summer, Costa made it quite clear he wanted to leave Stamford Bridge and China has been rumoured again now.
“Does Costa want to play for this football club? Does he want to stay at Chelsea?
“I do think Conte has got to make a big decision.
“He’s dropped him once already. He was in much better form when he dropped him last time, and he came back and reacted with a goal.
“I sort of feel that, for the benefit of the Premier League and Chelsea having their chances to win it, I he’s got to make a statement with Diego Costa.
“And he’s not played well enough – in the last six games he’s had four bookings, no real efforts on goal and no real clear chances.
“He’s looked totally out of sorts.”
