As the league draws nearer to its end, Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes Tottenham have what it takes to catch up with Chelsea.
Chelsea face Manchester City tomorrow night and Manchester United comes up two games after that, and Neville believes this could help Tottenham close the gap. He also believes Tottenham could deliver a psychological blow to Chelsea by beating the Blues in the FA Cup.
“The chance is now, Chelsea have got City and United in two out of their next three league games,” Neville said.
“Tottenham do play them in the FA Cup, it’s worth mentioning that game. Tottenham could damage them in that game, potentially.
“I know it’s not in the Premier League, but psychologically, if they (Tottenham) did get the points gap nearer in the next couple of weeks with those three matches, then beat them in the FA Cup, that could put a seed of doubt in their minds.
“If you’re chasing you need to play first to get that gap closer.
“If Tottenham can play before Chelsea regularly, and keep putting the pressure on by closing that gap, having Chelsea go to sleep on those Saturday nights thinking ‘if we don’t win tomorrow, we’re nearly there’. That does have a psychological effect as well. So even the fixtures and the way they are laid out are important.”
Gary Neville will definitely eat his words at the end of the season – that I am sure of.
