Manchester United’s Paul Pogba is currently the most expensive player in the world, but former Everton manager Roberto Martinez believes Chelsea target Romelu Lukaku could become more expensive than Pogba.
Martinez who’s currently the manager of Belgium national team signed Lukaku during his time at Everton, and believes the former Chelsea forward is now a different striker.
“It’s difficult to say [if Everton can keep hold of Lukaku],” Martinez told FourFourTwo.
“What’s important is that as a club, if you lose a player, you lose him on your own terms. Rom has doubled or trebled the initial fee that Everton paid for him.”
Martinez believes Everton landed a bargain deal when they bought Lukaku for around £28 million.
“In my eyes, potentially, he was worth more money. We knew he’d become the player he is now,” he added.
