Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has been absent from action for his new Chinese Super League club Tianjin Teda, due to injury.

The 30-year-old is currently in England to undergo a surgery to repair the abdominal strain which he picked up at his Chinese club Tianjin Teda, that has made the captain miss out on football action.

He has been absent since the team’s 2-0 win against Chongqing Lifan – where he got his first league goal.

The Chelsea legend had undergone series of tests in China – including nuclear magnetic resonance, but the cause of injury which gives him discomfort could not be detected, hence his return to England.

Mikel is expected to be out for another three weeks to enable him recover well after the surgery.

Tianjin Teda are 10th on the Super League log with eight points from six games, and will definitely be looking forward to having their captain back.

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
