Former Chelsea midfielder has been a key player for Shanghai SIPG, who have made a good start to the Chinese Super League, with three wins and a draw from their opening four matches to sit second in the table behind Guangzhou R&F.
However, in their Asian Champions League game against Urawa Reds, he failed to score from the spot twice as the Chinese failed to beat their Japanese opponent.
After Rafael Silva’s first-half strike to put Urawa Reds ahead, Oscar earned a penalty kick, but the Urawa goalkeeper Shusaku Nishikawa brilliantly denied him by tipping the shot on to the crossbar.
Just 14 minutes later Oscar had another chance to salvage the game, but this time skied his effort well over the bar.
The game ended 1-0 and the defeat leaves the Red Eagles joint-top of Group F ahead of Seoul and Western Sydney Warriors.
