A moment of defensive lapses from Chelsea threw away our 1-0 lead, as we lost our first game at Stamford Bridge since September.
See how the players fared:
Courtois: He was left exposed by his defence twice and even made a superb save from a Zaha effort on the hour mark. 6/10
Azpilicueta: Could have done better to prevent the second goal scored by Benteke as the ball went past a lot of bodies. Other than that had a solid game. 5.5/10
Luiz: Would take a share of the blame as his block on Benteke in the buildup to Zaha’s goal was quite tame. Besides that mistake, he didn’t do anything wrong. 5.5/10
Cahill: Didn’t show good leadership to coordinate the backline today, and our poor defending is a major reason we lost to Palace, having gone one nil up. 5/10
Kante: Not the best of games from the energetic Frenchman, as Chelsea’s midfield couldn’t deal with Palace’s breaks in the first half. 6/10
Matic: Would take a blame for the first goal; his poor reading of the ball enabled Crystal Palace to intercept and score the first goal through Zaha. Wasn’t his usual imposing self in the middle of the park and was rightly substituted for Wilian early in the second-half. 5/10
Pedro: The Spaniard started the game in a left wing-back role; had a good game going forward but the Palace defence held on strongly. 6.5/10
Alonso: Didn’t make any mistake and helped the attack before his eventual substitution. Had a good game but was unfortunate to be on the losing side. 6.5/10
Fabregas: Started the Chelsea charge with a beautiful goal which started from his sumptuous pass. Was unfortunate that the game went downhill from there. 7/10
Hazard: Started the game brightly with a wonderful assist for Fabregas’ goal. Was lively as Chelsea missed a lot of chances in search for an equaliser. 7/10
Costa: Was lively and threatened the Palace defence, but there was no breakthrough. 6.5/10
Willian: Brought in for Matic to add pressure on Palace’s defence as Chelsea looked for the equaliser. He did his bit but Palace defence held on. 6/10
Batshuayi: Brought in for Alonso as Chelsea searched for the equaliser.
Loftus–Cheek: Came on very late.
