Tension-filled game against City at Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea held on to win the game and the Blues deservedly took all three points.
See how the players fared:
Courtois: He made the mistake that led to Aguero’s goal; a poor pass to the opponent when he wasn’t under any pressure. But made up for it afterwards with a couple of good saves and showed strong character not to let that mistake weigh him down. 6.5/10
Zouma: Only played the first 45 minutes of the game, and was substituted at half-time for Matic. Had a decent game. 6/10
Luiz: The Brazilian was ever solid at the back, won so many aerial balls and contributed greatly to a strong Chelsea defence. 7.5/10
Cahill: A very solid display from the captain; put in so many strong defensive works including a last-ditch interception in the second-half that could have been deadly. 7.5/10
Azpilicueta: A good day in the office for the Spaniard. Started as a right wing-back and assisted Hazard’s first goal. Played the second-half in his usual role in the back three and was solid as well. 7.5/10
Kante: Worked tirelessly in the middle of the park and was always willing to open up for the pass in Chelsea’s midfield. 7/10
Fabregas: Important contribution from the Spaniard, as he helped the team distribute the balls from the centre. His defensive duties today is worthy of praise. 7/10
Alonso: Continued his consistency in the left wing-back role and helped shut out City’s wingers from any relevant threat. 7/10
Pedro: Started as a winger and then reverted to the wing-back role in the second-half and played both roles pretty well. Worked tirelessly for the team, ran up and down the flanks and won the penalty for Hazard’s second goal. 7.5/10
Hazard: Another man-of-the-match performance from the Belgian. Scored a brace and was really superb going forward for Chelsea. He didn’t relent in tracking back to support the team as well. 8.5/10
Costa: Lacked any meaningful service and was isolated in the first-half. But he had a good second-half as he worked really hard for the team. 6.5/10
Subs
Matic: Influenced the game greatly and he came on for Zouma at half-time. Shored up Chelsea’s midfield which was easily penetrated in the first-half. Made Chelsea solid in the middle and forced City to go wide. Almost ruined his good work as he let Stones to a free header deep in stoppage time. 7/10
Willian: Replaced Fabregas with about ten minutes left and he showed his quality within that short time and also worked hard for the team. 6.5/10
Loftus–Cheek: Came on with three minutes left of stoppage time.
