Chelsea assistant manager Steve Holland will leave Chelsea at the end of the season to work as Gareth Southgate’s No 2 with England on a full-time basis but his replacement is yet to be announced by Chelsea.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is reportedly at odds with the board due to his preference to appoint an Italian to be his number two according to a report by The Times.

Chelsea assistant manager Steve Holland

Chelsea have a tradition in the Roman Abramovich era of appointing a British coach as our assistant manager and according to the report by The Times, the board favours appointing a British coach just as we did in the past with Steve Clarke, Ray Wilkins, Paul Clement, Eddie Newton and SteveHolland who all served as assistants to foreign managers.

According to the report, many of Conte’s planning meetings and tactical sessions are conducted in his native language due to his desire to maintain secrecy and he would prefer he recruits an Italian as his assistant to join his close-knit team.
