Reports last summer had it that Everton rejected a bid of £68 million from Chelsea for their star player, Romelu Lukaku.
So/Foot Magazine, via Sport Witness, report that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich personally attempted to prise the striker away from Everton with an offer of £68m plus bonuses.
However, Everton owner Farhad Moshiri turned down Chelsea’s bid – a decision which Lukaku was initially unhappy with.
Chelsea are expected to launch another offer for the 23-year-old this summer to bolster the squad ahead of next season’s campaign in the Champions League.
The Belgian is one of the league’s most in-demand players as he currently leads the way in the Premier League with 24 goals – four clear of Tottenham’s Harry Kane.
Lukaku is reluctant to sign a new contract with Everton, and rumours now suggest Everton want a record-breaking fee for the Belgian.
