Ghana international Christian Atsu who’s currently on loan with Newcastle has been a pivotal player for Rafa Benitez’s men, having helped them secure promotion to the topflight.
As part of Atsu’s deal, Newcastle have the option to sign the 25-year-old Chelsea man for £6.5million, and ESPN report that must be taken up within seven days of the season ending, with personal terms already agreed as part of the loan.
Atsu has one year remaining on his contract at Chelsea, having arrived from Porto in 2013.
Newcastle have two games remaining in the Championship, with the final game on May 7, meaning if they don’t complete the signing of Atsu before then, the deal will be off.
Atsu, who has never played a single game for Chelsea scored four goals and created three for Newcastle and Chelsea are apparently considering offering him a new deal.
A number of other clubs are said to be monitoring Atsu’s situation.
