During the last meeting between Chelsea and Manchester United in the FA Cup quarterfinals, fourth official Mike Jones had to keep Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte apart as there was a heated argument between the pair.
Andre Marriner will be the man tasked in keeping the peace between the two after being named as the fourth official for the Sunday 4pm kick-off in Manchester, while Bobby Madley will referee the contest. He’d be very much aware of the rivalry that seems to have erupted between Mourinho and Conte plus Mourinho’s underhand tactics to beat Chelsea by telling his players to foul Eden Hazard continuously, which led to the sending off of Ander Herrera.
Marriner took charge of Chelsea’s 3-1 win at Bournemouth at the weekend, and will be in for a much difficult game on Sunday. Gary Beswick and Peter Kirkup will be the linesman.
