Nathan Ake is no longer the young teenager who once played as a defensive midfielder under Jose Mourinho and Rafa Benitez.

The 22-year-old spent the first half of last campaign on loan to Bournemouth, and the Dutchman has revealed that he should be playing more games now at his age.

“I know what you mean, because when I was 17, 18, 19, you are happy you are going to be involved, or be on the bench, or get some minutes. But I think at my age now, you want to play a little bit more, also because I had a taste of it,” he told the Guardian.

“Of course you also know this is a big club, so there will be big players and it’s not easy to come into the team. I just need to see what is going to happen with Michael [Emenalo, the technical director] or the manager. We have to talk and see what is best.”

Ake played twice in the league for Chelsea this season and featured in three FA Cup games, and it was enough for the Chelsea fans to see him as a worthy choice in the Chelsea defence.

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
