Despite his excellent season, Marcos Alonso will miss out on Spain’s squad for June internationals in favour of Nacho Monreal.
The 26-year-old has been one of the best players in the league this season, but Spain boss Julen Lopetegui has refused to name him in his 23-man squad for Colombia and Macedonia clashes.
His Chelsea team-mate Cesc Fabregas also missed out on the international call-up. However, Pedro Rodriguez, Diego Costa and Cesar Azpilicueta made the cut.
Spain will take on the Colombians in a friendly match in Murcia on June 7 before travelling to Skopje for a World Cup qualifying clash on June 11.
