Chelsea veteran John Terry is set to leave Chelsea at the end of the season, a club he has called home since he was a very young teenager.
The man who Chelsea fans refer to as ‘Captain, Leader, Legend’ is so much-loved by the Chelsea faithful, and the fans have started a petition to name a stand at the club’s new stadium after him to ensure his legacy at the club will be remembered for a long time.
The online campaign has been started on website change.org, and opens with the inspirational line “Captain. Leader. Legend. There is no one on the planet who’s more Chelsea, than John Terry.”
The fans were encouraged to use the twitter hashtag #JohnTerryStand, the petition has already reached its target of 2,500 signatures in less than a day.
The petition highlighted Terry’s extraordinary achievement at the club, saying: “He’s lifted every trophy in the game, having been at Chelsea since the start of his career. The man is an icon for not just Chelsea fans, but lovers of football all around the world.
“We, Chelsea fans, want the club to honour him by naming a stand at the new Stamford Bridge stadium after the greatest Chelsea Captain of all time.”
Chelsea recently announced that plans had been approved to build an all-new 60,000 capacity stadium on the grounds of their current Stamford Bridge site, and it’ll be great for the captain to have a stand named after him even though he won’t play in the new stadium.
