Chelsea U18 have already lifted the FA Youth Cup and Under-18 Premier League southern title this term, and a victory over Arsenal on Monday handed them the initiative in the elite merit group title chase. A win over Reading will seal the title for the young Blues.
Conor Gallagher has been a regular throughout our Under-18 league campaign, featuring in all but two of our 28 league outings to date.
Read what the 17-year-old has to say about beating Arsenal on Monday to go top of the table: “We knew we had to win if we wanted the best chance of winning the league and I think as a group we thrive off games like that,” he told the official Chelsea website as we look ahead to this evening’s final game of the season.
“We like the pressure on us and that’s when we perform at our best, as we have done in Youth Cup finals and semi-finals already this year. It shows we’re always ready for the big games. We expected Arsenal to be strong because they brought a good team and we know they’re a good side but we defended well.”
On what will be a possible title this evening, Gallagher said: “It makes the season more exciting when every game matters. There are points on the line you need to get and trophies that you need to win. All the first-years have adapted to it well and I think we’ve done great as a group. Now we’ve just got one more trophy to win to make it a really successful season.”
