With rumours claiming that Chelsea striker Diego Costa has agreed a pre-contract agreement with Chinese club Tianjin Quanjian, the Chinese Super League club have denied such claims.

The club released a statement today saying: “Regarding the widespread rumour that Chelsea FC’s Diego Costa is close to joining Tianjin Quanjian FC, our club want to make clear that at this point, we have not been communicating with Costa regarding the transfer.”

Rumours about Costa leaving for the Far East have been rife since January, and the news of a pre-contract agreement became intense in the media after Tianjin Quanjian owner Shu Yuhui confirmed his club have held talks with a host of top stars.

“The only thing I can reveal right now is that we have agreed terms with two or three stars,” he told Tianjin Daily.

“The players have no problem with the deals and their clubs are also willing to let them leave.

“The only issue that remains unresolved is reaching agreements with their respective clubs over the transfer fees.”
