The media has linked Chelsea playmaker Cesc Fabregas with a move away from Stamford Bridge at the end of the season with Chelsea boss Antonio Conte preferring the midfield partnership of N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic.
Fabregas started and gave a man of the match performance during Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over Middlesbrough and pundit Gary Neville insists Chelsea must keep Fabregas at the club next season.
Neville believes with Chelsea playing Champions League football next season, Fabregas is a player Chelsea need in the squad.
“The idea that Chelsea will be able to go through next season with just those 11 players that have served them so well, they are going to need the other players to contribute in the cups, the Champions League,” Neville said on Sky Sports.
“From my point of view, there is a position for him (Fabregas).
“I don’t think it has been an 11-man game or a 12-man game for the last 20 years.
“It has always been an 18-20 man squad game for the top teams over a season, that’s why they have big squads.”
