Tottenham’s title race was dashed on Friday night as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to West Ham at the London Stadium on Friday night.
Former Spurs player Jermaine Jenas has hailed his former side for what they have achieved this season, and he has admitted that the only thing Tottenham can do to catch up with Chelsea in the future will be to improve their squad and improve their wage bill.
“They’re punching above their weight based on those stats alone but it’s also where they can improve,” he said on BT Sport.
“If they want to consolidate their position where they are now, those are the numbers they need to get to.
“They need to improve those wages bill numbers. It sounds crazy because you want to give them praise for being where they are in terms of how brilliant it is that their wage bill is so low.
“But they could stumble across a few issues because of that.
“To improve their squad, to put them in a better position next year, they will need to spend more on the wages to pay the players they’ve got and the ones they’re bringing in.”
