Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has major defensive problems ahead of FA Cup final clash with Chelsea with Laurent Koscielny suspended, Gabriel injured and Shkodran Mustafi yet to train after illness.

Wenger revealed he might opt to start Per Mertesacker for FA Cup final against Chelsea and Chelsea striker Diego Costa will definitely love this.

The last time Mertesacker played against Chelsea, he couldn’t handle the pace of Costa and received a red card.

Mertesacker has not started a game for more than a year and last played 90 minutes in April 2016 in a 0-0 draw with Sunderland.

Wenger said: “Will I start with Per? I don’t know as he has not played 90 minutes for a long time. I have not made up my mind yet. He has the leadership qualities, so it depends a little bit on the system I will go for, the system I will choose.”

Chelsea fans will be hoping Wenger opts for Mertesacker.
