According to former Manchester United defender Gary Neville, the key difference between Jose Mourinho of Manchester United and Antonio Conte of Chelsea is that Mourinho is a defensive manager while Conte brings balance to his team.
Conte is on the verge of winning the Premier League title in his debut season in the Premier League while Mourinho has endured a difficult debut campaign at Manchester United in contrast, with the Red Devils drawing 10 home games this season as they struggle for a top-four finish.
“We had a debate about Jose Mourinho, who we said was a great manager but he’s a defensive manager,” Neville told Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.
“I’m interested to what we would describe Antonio Conte as – I look at him and I think there is a balance in the team.
“He pays a lot of focus to defence – they’re not a [Jurgen] Klopp, [Pep] Guardiola or [Arsene] Wenger type team, where they can be reckless in attack.
“They always have plenty of security in defence.”
