It was clear from the start of the game that Chelsea weren’t in the right frame of mind to beat Arsenal in the FA Cup final.
Chelsea’s defence went to sleep, there were shouts for handball and offside leading to Arsenal’s early goal via Alexis Sanchez.
Antonio Conte, speaking after the game has refused to blame anyone. He admitted that his team made a mistake and the referee made a mistake as well.
“I don’t know if my players had the time to recover, I need to look at the goal,” Conte said in his post-match press conference. “But there is a clear handball, but i don’t know why the referee didn’t decide to whistle. It can happen. A player makes a mistake, the referee makes a mistake. I think that we were unlucky.”
He also admitted that the team’s bad start killed the game.
Conte said: “My players put all themselves in the game, our start wasn’t good and the approach wasn’t good. They pushed at the start, we paid for the start.”
Speaking about the offside decision, he said: “Honestly it is difficult to discuss this situation, I didn’t see. I don’t want to make a mistake without to watch this situation. The reality is we lost the game.”
