Chelsea lost the opportunity to do the double, no thanks to Anthony Taylor who let Arsenal’s first goal stand, when there was a blatant offside from Ramsey and handball by Alexis Sanchez.
See how the players fared:
Courtois: He did a lot to keep Chelsea in the game and cannot be blamed. 6.5/10
Azpilicueta: Pressed and worked hard but lost concentration a couple of times. 6/10
Luiz: The Brazilian wasn’t at his best in the first-half as Chelsea’s defence looked shaky for most of the half. 5.5/10
Cahill: Was Chelsea’s best defender today, and made two last-ditch clearance to keep his team in the game. 6.5/10
Kante: A game of mixed fortunes for the energetic Frenchman. His energy was evident in the game, but he lost Ramsey leading to Arsenal’s second goal. 6.5/10
Matic: Barely had his stamp on the game and was rightly substituted for Fabregas just after 60 minutes. 4.5/10
Moses: Let his team down as his dive earned him a second booking. Made it difficult for his team with his sending off. 4/10
Alonso: Didn’t do much wrong in the game and helped the team especially after the sending off of Moses. 6.5/10
Hazard: Not Eden Hazard’s day today, and his dribbling never really opened the Arsenal defence. 5/10
Pedro: Was energetic and pressed hard but it wasn’t his day today. 6/10
Costa: Scored Chelsea’s only goal of the game and was probably Chelsea’s best player. Was our best threat going forward and I was disappointed just as he was when Conte substituted him. 7.5/10
Subs
Fabregas: Came on for Matic and added calmness to Chelsea’s midfield. 6.5/10
Willian: Replaced Pedro and gave the assist for Costa’s goal. 6.5/10
Batshuayi: Came on very late in the game.
