Antonio Conte has previously revealed that he has found it “hard” to settle in London, away from his family for large chunks of time.

As a result Conte regularly eats out at Italian restaurants around the Chelsea area to get a taste of home.

The Italian also takes the diet of his players seriously, and it’s a huge part of his coaching method.

And the owner of one his favourite haunts, Gola, has revealed what a gentleman he is when he’s in there, while also adding that Conte spies on what his players eat.

“He comes back so often. He is a nice, simple relaxed guy,” restaurateur Aaron Rutigliano told the Evening Standard.

“He comes in by himself to eat dinner or sometimes just to watch football, or sometimes with a friend or his lovely wife and daughter.

“He’s incredible with the customers, very polite. He has hundreds of people asking him for a picture and he never says no. Never, ever. Jose Mourinho wouldn’t do that.

“But Antonio Conte is always standing up and smiling in every picture.”

Rutigliano also revealed just how much Conte is involved with his players – even keeping tabs on what they eat on nights out.

“Many times I have to send him a picture of the player and what they are eating,” he explains. “He is very hands-on but the players all love him.”

The Chelsea players will be shocked to find out that the boss monitors what they eat.

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
