Last summer, 20-year-old Santos midfielder Thiago Maia was linked with a move to Chelsea alongside then teammate Gabriel “Gabigol” Barbosa who now plays for Inter Milan.
Rumours linking Thiago Maia grew even more after Santos president Modesto Roma travelled to London last August, though Roma himself later debunked the rumours later, claiming no discussion regarding Thiago Maia had taken place.
Maia ended up staying at Santos but rumours linking him with a move to Chelsea has resurfaced again.
According to Brazilian media outlet UOL, Santos are planning to sell two young stars, with Thiago being one of them.
Santos president Modesto Roma has publicly stated that the club will need to sell a top player in the team to balance the books.
Thiago Maia’s new agent is Giuliano Bertolucci, who also represents the likes of Oscar, Kenedy and Ramires.
No official offer has been made for the midfielder by Chelsea but a fee of about £16 million might be enough to tempt Santos into selling.
