Chelsea were linked with a move for Brighton goalkeeper David Stockdale in January amid reports Asmir Begovic would be leaving Chelsea.
Begovic’s deal to leave Chelsea for Bournemouth fell through after Chelsea failed to get any replacement.
A report by Daily Express claims a deal for Stockdale is back on as we approach the summer transfer window.
With Begovic likely to leave Chelsea at the end of the season, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte reportedly wants to make 31-year-old David Stockdale a back-up for Thibaut Courtois.
Stockdale’s Brighton contract expires next month and Chelsea will be able to get the goalkeeper for free.
However, with Brighton securing promotion to the Premier League next season, I wonder if Stockdale will turn down the chance to be Brighton’s number one goalkeeper next season and join Chelsea to be a backup goalkeeper.
Stockdale made 44 appearances in the Championship this season for Brighton. He kept an impressive 20 clean sheets and conceded just 39 goals.
