As desperate as we are to see Diego Costa stay on at Chelsea beyond the ending season, it is becoming increasingly likely that wish will not be granted. Costa has never (publicly) said he wants to leave Chelsea, but he has never really come out to say he’ll be at Chelsea for the longer haul. In fact, I recall that he was quoted as saying he wanted to go back to Atletico at some point last year. Before that interview happened, rumors were rife regarding his unhappiness in London and the desire to go back to Spain. So he only confirmed it all.
This season, he has been strongly linked with a move to China, and although he’s not confirmed it, he hasn’t ruled out the possibility. The greatest indication of a potential departure of Costa perhaps, might be his gesture towards fans after his substitution yesterday against Sunderland. As he left the pitch, he not only clapped, but appeared to wave goodbye to the Bridge faithful. Of course, it could have been a meaningless gesture, after all, it was the last league game of the season, and he wouldn’t be playing at Stamford Bridge for a while at least, but it could also have been a way of him subtly letting us know he’ll be gone at the end of the season.
Whether or not Costa leaves though, the one thing I know for sure is that we need to add more fire power to our ranks. It’s going to be a tougher season coming, and we have to be ready.
