With the Premier League title done and dusted, Chelsea have long qualified for next season’s Champions League, and the Blues who missed out on Europe’s elite competition this season, will have another chance to right their wrong.
As Champions of England, Chelsea will head straight into Pot 1 and will be joined by league champions from Uefa’s top seven countries, based on the 2015-16 country rankings.
Pot 2 will include the likes of Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and Porto.
The likes of Tottenham, Basel, Anderlecht and Liverpool will be grouped in Pot 3. Napoli could join the list if they secure third place in Serie A and win in the August play-offs.
Pot 4 will definitely include Feyenoord and RB Leipzig. The Turkish champions will also be involved, along with Celtic if they navigate past the play-off round. Other likely Pot 4 participants are FC Salzburg and FC Copenhagen.
Manchester United will be placed in Pot 2 after their Europa League conquest and this will drop Spurs to Pot 3 after Manchester United’s Europa League Final win against Ajax.
