The summer is here, and although the transfer window isn’t officially open yet until another month, clubs have started identifying targets and making acquisitions. The players bought now will not officially join their new clubs until the transfer window is officially opened in July 1.

While the likes of City have acquired a player already (Bernardo Silva), and are set to do even more business before the new season kicks off, Chelsea are yet to make one. Of course, I’m not implying that we haven’t identified our targets yet, I’m sure we have, and I’m sure the ‘behind the scenes’ work is ongoing, it’s just yet to be made public.

However, as we go into the transfer market to do business in the coming weeks, we must first focus our attention on those areas that are most important, and for me, it’s the defence, attacking midfield and forward position.

Our defence started strongly, but eventually began to allow too many goals. I feel that Cahill and Luiz need serious competition to get back to the early season form from the past campaign. Moses seemed to dip slightly after his injury. Fatigue obviously set in. He needs assistance. We seem to lack a creative midfielder of Fabregas’ skills and vision. Getting someone like or better than him can be a boost for us.

Finally, in attack, Costa and Batshuayi are doing well, but they need another striker to make the competition healthier. Costa has been worth the investment, but we’re not sure he’s staying, so we need someone to fill his boots, and if he stays, fine, but we really do need another striker in that forward position.

Conte and his staff need to get into action quickly. Pre-season beckons; new players will need to blend in in time just before the coming campaign kicks off. We have time, but not so much of it.

What makes him perfect for this blog? He lives for Chelsea FC, in fact, I heard he sat in the middle of a road, and refused to go home after that bitter loss to Barcelona in 2009. Haha.
