Chelsea youth team ended the season as champions, the men team ended the season as Champions and the Ladies team could as well end the season as champions.
Chelsea Ladies are level on points with Manchester City with 16 points at the top of the table, but the Blues have a vastly superior goal difference: +27 versus +9. As a result, barring the unlikeliest of goal swings, three points at Birmingham will secure the title.
So, a victory for Chelsea Ladies at Birmingham this afternoon is likely to guarantee the Spring Series title.
Chelsea Ladies manager Emma Hayes believes the 4-0 win against Bristol was a good rehearsal for the game. She said: “Recovery was the first step of getting ready for this game, followed by preparation, and I’m looking forward to it. I expect the players’ concentration levels to be higher than they’ve been at any point this season,’ she said. ‘There are a lot of quality footballers in this dressing room and I know each and every single one of them will do everything they can to make sure we win this Spring Series.
“We can’t be complacent; we’ve just played a Bristol side who put in a good performance against us and they were stubborn, difficult to break down, which is what I expect Birmingham to be. I think they’ll sit in a very low block, they don’t attack with a lot of players and they play for set-pieces, so I think Bristol was a good rehearsal for this game.”
