Chelsea utility player Nathan Ake made his debut for the Dutch national team on Wednesday, as Netherlands defeated Morocco 2-1 in a friendly game.
Ake has been a regular in the Dutch youth set-up but the game on Wednesday was his first senior team appearance.
The 22-year-old was deployed at left-back for a young Dutch side led by interim boss Fred Grim, and Ake played the entire 90 minutes as Netherlands went 2-0 up through Quincy Promes and Tottenham’s Vincent Janssen.
After going 2-0 up, his team eventually had it tough as they had a man sent off and our former Academy player Mbark Boussoufa netted the resulting free-kick for the hosts, but Ake and the defence stood firm in the face of some late pressure to record a second victory in six matches.
Their next game is a friendly against Ivory Coast on Sunday before they meet Luxembourg in World Cup qualifying on June 9.
