Chelsea have been linked with a move for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, who left Stamford Bridge for Goodison Park three years ago during the Jose Mourinho era.
The question every Chelsea fan has been asking is how close are we as a club to signing the 24-year-old Belgian who is reportedly valued at around £80 million.
Diego Costa recently revealed he would be leaving Stamford Bridge this summer after Chelsea boss Antonio Conte sent him a message telling him that he won’t be needed at Chelsea next season.
While the revelation has been generating lots of arguments among Chelsea fans, the revelation by Costa is also proof that Chelsea have agreed terms with Romelu Lukaku as revealed by the striker recently.
Conte is a smart manager and he won’t discard a top striker like Diego Costa without a replacement. Conte definitely sent the message to Costa because he has been told by the board that the club is close to securing the signing of Lukaku from Everton.
Costa made the revelation about the text from Conte after Spain’s 2-2 draw with Colombia on Wednesday night.
“I had a simple little message on my mobile from Conte in which he said that he isn’t counting on me for next season,” Costa said.
“It will be because I’ve done badly this year. It’s a shame. I’ve forwarded the message on to the people at the club for them to decide but it’s clear that the coach isn’t counting on me and he doesn’t want me there.
“I’m on the market and so I’m looking for a team. If the coach doesn’t want you, you have to leave.”
Do you think Lukaku would replace Costa at Chelsea? Are you excited about his Chelsea return?
