Chelsea have lots of quality youngsters in the academy and on loan, and the abundance of talents in the Chelsea rank can’t be overemphasized.
Football pundit Trevor Sinclair believes Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker who has spent the last two seasons on loan to Vitesse Arnhem is a talent that should be in the senior team by now.
“I think so (Chelsea are missing a trick not having him),” Sinclair said on Sky Sports.
“Again, we go back to the Premier League, because of the pressures and because of the competition and how high the quality is, it’s about opportunity and he’s just not got that opportunity at Chelsea up to now.”
Sinclair applauded Baker for being able to use both feet, a situation that’s rare among many footballers.
“It’s special, we all try and use our weaker side, our weaker foot,” he added.
“For him to be taking free-kicks with his left foot and taking a penalty with his right foot, it just shows the amount of hours, thousands and thousands of hours it takes to get to that level.
“Fair play to him, he’s obviously one of the hardest working players on the training pitch and he’s multi-talented with that.
“It’s a good combination, talent without that hard work, he wouldn’t be in that position.
“He’s had his knock-backs and disappointments but he continues to train hard.”
I agree with Sinclair; if there’s one person that should be in this Chelsea team then it’s Baker. The 22-year-old has proven himself and should be given a chance.
