Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has been advised to consider bringing 19-year-old Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham into the first team next season. The youngster, who scored 23 goals in the Championship last season, has been linked with loan moves to Newcastle and Brighton.
“Well I think so (it’s a big opportunity to show he has a big future at Chelsea),” Alan Smith said on Sky Sports.
“He’s still a teenager isn’t he, he’s the only one in the squad, so he’s relatively young.
“Having scored that amount of goals in the Championship, you do wonder if Antonio Conte will look at him, especially if Diego Costa does leave the club.
“Obviously they have to get someone proven in, there’s lots of talk about (Romelu) Lukaku, but you do wonder whether they think to bring him back and let him develop further.
“He’s been away from Stamford Bridge for a couple of years now and he’s certainly a talented boy.
“You see his goals and he’s a real poacher, they’re not always spectacular but he’ll pop up with a toe poke from six yards, he’s got a real knack.
“I’m sure Chelsea would think seriously about whether they would bring him back.”
