As expected, Chelsea’s reported £35m move for French midfielder, Tiemoue Bakayoko is close to conclusion. The energetic French midfielder is expected to take the place of Serbian midfielder, Nemanja Matic who is reportedly close to joining rivals, Manchester United in a £40m deal.
Their comparisons will be done based on the last season. Let’s see which player is better and who gets the best deal:
The Serbian midfield powerhouse was a real attacking weapon in Chelsea’s arsenal as his record for last season reads: a single goal scored and 7 assists. A pass completion rate of 88% with 20 key passes (0.67 per 90 mins) and 27 chances created (0.9 per 90 mins). Defensively, the Serbian won 37 tackles (1.24 per 90 mins) with a total 31 completed take-ons success(65.96% ), won 38 aerial successful duels(60.32) and made 55 interceptions (1.84 per 90 mins).
The French midfielder in attacking play scored 2 goals and gave a single assist. He had a pass completion rate of 87%, with 14 key passes given (0.57 per 90 mins) and 15 chances created (0.61 per 90 mins). Defensively, he won 56 tackles (2.27 per 90 mins), successfully completed 54 take-ons (67.5%), successfully won 57 aerial duels (62.64%) and successfully made 54 interceptions (2.19 per 90 mins).
So, based on statistical fact Matic appears the better player in an attacking sense, while Bakayoko appears better defensively. But the clear advantage the French midfielder has over the Serbian is in terms of age. Bakayoko is 22 and will surely develop his game as years roll on and has a good resale value, while Matic at 28 is already in his prime and this could just be the best opportunity for Chelsea to sell him and make good profit.
