Chelsea striker Diego Costa is set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after the striker was told by Antonio Conte that he wasn’t part of his plans for next season.

Costa has always wanted to return to Atletico Madrid but the transfer ban placed on the La Liga side means Atletico Madrid can’t register players until January.

According to a report on Daily Mirror, Atletico Madrid are preparing to submit a bid for Diego Costa to re-join them in January.

Chelsea paid Atletico Madrid £32million for Costa in 2014 but Atletico Madrid reportedly want to offer Chelsea  £26million for Costa but with various performance-related add-ons they effectively plan to give the Blues their money back if a deal for the 28-year-old can be struck.

Atletico Madrid hope they can convince Chelsea to agree to keep the player until December but they will ask that he is left out of the Blues’ Champions League squad so he is not cup tied for the latter stages of the competition.
