There’s no doubt in the fact that Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is one of the best goalkeepers in the game at the moment.
The 25-year-old was crucial in Chelsea’s dominance in the Premier League last season and is in discussions with the club to be given a new contract.
Eden Hazard is currently Chelsea’s highest earner with wages of £200,000 per week and reports claim Courtois wants as much as that to keep him on par with Hazard and Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea.
The Belgian shotstopper currently earns £110,000 per week and his contract runs out in two years time – meaning, Chelsea have to get him to sign a new deal this summer.
According to the Daily Mail, Courtois’ demands have reportedly seen Chelsea put off contract talks for the time being, though they hope to reach an agreement with the former Atletico Madrid man before the start of the new season.
World-class goalkeepers are scarce and replacing the Belgian might be a difficult task. If he’s among the best then he should be paid like the best. My candid opinion!
