Liverpool were favourites to sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk as the Dutch international favoured a move to join the Reds.
However, the Saints reported Liverpool to the FA for tapping the 25-year-old.
Liverpool have escaped a Premier League fine for tapping up the Southampton defender, and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp had still harboured hopes of being able to resurrect the deal once the furore had died down.
But Southampton have made it clear that they won’t sell Van Dijk to Liverpool.
This have put Chelsea in pole position to sign the Dutch international. But both clubs have still not agreed a deal for the Dutch international.
