Reports claim Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has earmarked Leonardo Bonucci and Virgil van Dijk as his targets for the centre-back position and has told Chelsea to sign one of them.
The Chelsea chiefs seem to be unhappy with the choice of spending so much on 30-year-old Bonucci and will prefer a move for Van Dijk.
Van Dijk was close to signing for Liverpool but the move has been cut off after Southampton threatened to report Liverpool for tapping their defender.
Sky Italia and other media outlets now claim Chelsea have decided to turn their attention to Van Dijk, and claim that while a deal is not yet struck, the Blues are close to making the deal happen.
With Chelsea in need of defensive reinforcements, Van Dijk might just be the one.
