Manchester City are reportedly willing to outbid Chelsea for Southampton’s defender Virgil van Dijk according to a report on The Times.
25-year-old Van Dijk is wanted by Chelsea boss Antonio Conte and Chelsea will reportedly bid £50million for the defender but Manchester City are ready to pay over the £50million offer from Chelsea and offer Van Dijk wages of £180,000 a week, according to the Times.
Chelsea were in a pole position to sign Van Dijk as the Blues were willing to pay him £170,000 a week — about £50,000 a week more than has been offered by Liverpool.
Southampton reportedly want £60 million as they must pay Celtic 10 per cent of the transfer fee for a player they bought from the Scottish club for £13 million two years ago.
City’s involvement could cause a bidding war for the Dutch defender which could spike the transfer fee for Van Dijk, a scenario Southampton would love.
