Chelsea are desperate to add Juventus left-back Alex Sandro to the squad and judging from his stats from last season, Chelsea are right to push for a move for the 26-year-old Brazilian.
Real Madrid’s Marcelo and Bayern Munich’s David Alaba are two of the best left-backs in the world and Juventus left-back Alex Sandro beats these defenders in several aspects of his game.
The statistics below reveal why Chelsea desperately want Sandro
1. CHANCES CREATED
Every striker would love to have a left-back like Alex Sandro in his team. Sandro created more chances last season compared to Marcelo and Alaba. Sandro created 50 goalscoring chances in the league compared to Marcelo’s 43 and Alaba’s 34. Eden Hazard, Pedro and co would definitely love to have Sandro in the Chelsea team.
2. KEY PASSES
Marcelo and Alaba also trail behind Sandro in key passes made over the course of last season. Sandro made 46 key passes compared to Marcelo’s 33 and Alaba’s 30. Sandro also has a better pass completion rate than Marcelo (84% compared to Marcelo’s 81%) but Alaba has a better pass completion rate of 88%.
3. SUCCESSFUL TAKE-ONS
Sandro is a player who thrives in one-against-one situations due to his ability to dribble past his marker. Marcelo is known for his ability to beat players and he has the same successful take-ons as Sandro with both players at 67% way ahead of the Alaba’s 35%.
4. TACKLES AND CLEARANCES
A modern day fullback is expected to be good going forward and also good defensively and Sandro would offer Chelsea this. Sandro won 43 tackles in the league last season compared to Marcelo’s 36 and Alaba’s 24. He also made more clearances than Marcelo and Alaba, with his 63 clearances way ahead of Marcelo’s 37 and Alaba’s 35.
5. AERIAL DUELS
Compared to Marcelo and Alaba, Alex Sandro is good in aerial duels. Sandro won 60.29% of his aerial duels compared to Alaba’s 44.90% and Marcelo’s 36.36%.
Modern day wing-backs are expected to put in their fair share of goals and Sandro is a player who knows how to do just that. Sandro has a shot accuracy of 42% which is better than Marcelo’s shot accuracy of just 21% but behind Alaba’s shot accuracy of 50%. However, Sandro has a better conversion rate than Alaba and Marcelo as he scored three league goals from just 18 attempts compared Alaba’s four goals from 32 attempts and Marcelo’s two league goals from 25 attempts.
These statistics are even more impressive when we take into account that Sandro played lesser games than Marcelo and Alaba last season. Even the legendary Roberto Carlos believes Sandro is his heir.
