Chelsea have been linked with Roma defender Antonio Rudiger – and reports claim the Germany international is close to signing for Chelsea and could do his medicals this week.
Fans have been divided by Chelsea’s move for the 24-year-old after selling Nathan Ake, but Rudiger did his chances of winning the hearts of the Blue fans no harm whatsoever in the Confederations Cup final by starring in Germany’s 1-0 win over Chile.
Rudiger was instrumental as Joachim Low’s side secured victory in St Petersburg thanks to a 20th-minute goal from Lars Stindl.
In an intense final against Chile, the 24-year-old was part of a back three which kept Chile’s relentless attack at bay despite the continuous threats of the like of Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez and Eduardo Vargas.
His role in the victory did not go unnoticed by Blues fans, who were quick to flock to social media to praise one of Antonio Conte’s top transfer targets.

Rudiger did well tonight, did what he needed, no risks. Comfortable on ball & good tackling. Wanna see more assertiveness but that'll come.

Conte's wanted him for some time. Say goodbye to calamitous defending by backing away & fleeing while hands behind the back. #CFC #Rudiger https://t.co/6LPNeEQebL
