Chelsea have a history with the number 9 jersey and it hasn’t been a favourable one in recent years.
The last player to make a major impact wearing the number 9 shirt for Chelsea was Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who left Chelsea in 2004.
Then record signing Fernando Torres didn’t live up to his lofty expectations in that shirt, while Radamel Falcao, Mateja Kezman and Franco di Santo have all failed to shine in the number nine shirt. Steve Sidwell and Khalid Boulahrouz are others who have come and gone with little impact wearing the Chelsea No9.
Chelsea fans have now warned Morata to avoid the curse of the number 9 jersey.
Not the number 9. A Spanish striker wearing number 9 hasn't exactly worked out before.

Two different users have told him to take Didier Drogba’s 11 jersey or Diego Costa’s number 19.
@Serinawestiee wrote: “Noooooooo!! Just take Diego’s when he’s left. The 9 shirt is cursed I swear.”
And @OmerBasha86 added: “It’s cursed jersey since Hasselbaink… Drogba’s 15 will look great.”
