Former Chelsea skipper John Terry, who’s the last Chelsea player to break through from the academy to the first team, has revealed that the Blues have more talented youngsters than Monaco.
Monaco have produced many buzzing youngsters in recent times who go on to command hefty fees, such as Anthony Martial and Kylian Mbappe. But despite Chelsea’s inability to make their youngsters superstars, Terry believes that Chelsea can produce better quality than Monaco.
“We’ve got so many at Chelsea who are ready. Monaco have a couple and everybody’s saying how good they are—believe me, we’ve got better players at Chelsea,” said the 36-year-old.
“Our boys are good enough, they just need the opportunity. Either that or they need to back themselves and go out on loan.”
Terry then added that a lot of youngsters at Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City “get in the comfort zone” and fail to kick on as a result.
He said: “What a lot of them do is get in the comfort zone at Chelsea, Man City or Arsenal and think ‘I’m happy here’.”
